LEFORT

Armand Lefort was born on March 9, 1895 in Mons. His wife, Elisabeth Deligne, was born in Nivelles on February 26, 1896. They had 2 children: Christiane, born in Maisières on January 14, 1922 and Pierre, born in Mons on September 8, 1935. He worked as a technical assistant for military buildings and was a member of an intelligence and action service. He was arrested by the Feldgendarmerie at his home on August 11, 1942 and incarcerated in the Saint-Gilles military prison until he was sentenced to two years and six months, for repeated spying and assisting the enemy, by the Military Tribunal, July 16, 1943. He was executed, as a hostage, by shooting in the National Tir on October 12, 1943. The investigation report of the German military aviation court contains the detailed reason for his conviction: "The accused Lefort had met De Greef in mid-1941. De Greef had told him that he was in charge of military and economic intelligence. He declared himself ready to collaborate and provided De Greef already in mid-1941 with plans showing the aerodromes of Nivelles and Gossoncourt, as well as their electrical installations. Lefort had drawn up these plans himself in 1936 ”. And: "The accused Lefort had confessed. He confirms that he had given De Greef the plans for the Nivelles and Gossoncourt aerodromes and their electrical installations. However, he drew attention to the fact that these plans had been drawn up in 1936 and that they contained no secret indications ".
